Invasive Species

Another Austin environmental problem, which can be found almost anywhere in the world is invasive species. These are a variety of non- indigenous plants or animals that arrive in a foreign place. The result is a terribly mixed up ecosystem. This is dangerous to the native life forms living in the area because the new plants or animals could rise to the top of the food chain. As a direct result, a huge amount of plants and animals will die out.

An organization called Eco Texas helps to “promote the integrity and sustainability of our local environment by reducing the threat of invasive species to our endemic ecosystems.” ([ http://www.ecotx.org/about.html ]http://www.ecotx.org/about.html) The organization is non-profit and wants to help our parks and preserves to stay free of invasive species. They do this by volunteer action activities where volunteers go to parks and preserves and weed out the invasive species. They also work to educate and influence others to help with the cause, since many people do not know of the threat that invasive species pose.
