Grading Policy

Your essays, tests, quizzes,a blog post, and final exam comprise your fall term grade. The quiz average, the grammar test, and each essay are weighted equally. A blog, vocabulary contributions and vocabulary quizzes will make up a final portion, equal to a test or essay grade. The fall final examination will account for 25% of your fall-term grade. Since writing well requires a solid grasp of grammar and punctuation principles, I judge your writing, not only by its content, but also by its correctness. I consider the incorrect use of an object pronoun in the subject pronoun's place (for example, John and me went to the store) an egregious error, and I allow only one such error. Thus, if a student makes such a mistake again, I will give the essay a U. Finally, I value class participation, and, since not having a book impedes a student's ability to participate adequately, I shall give a quiz grade of X to any student who doesn't bring his/her book on a given day.
