The St. Stephen's Oral History Project

St. Stephen's launches the oral history project as part of the school's two-year celebration of its 50th anniversary. The project aims to preserve the stories behind the vision and commitment it took to establish a coeducational Episcopal boarding school in Texas. For half of a century the school has been dedicated to educating the mind, body, and spirit of all kinds of students. The oral history project celebrates what the St. Stephen's experience has meant to generations of learners. If you have a relationship with the school from the 1950s or sixties and would like to share your reflections with a student, please contact Shelley Sallee, St. Stephen's history teacher, at (512) 327-1213 or ssallee@sss.austin.tx.us. Interviews will be conducted from winter through the fall of 2000.

Students: Trained in a senior social science course, students conduct and transcribe interviews.

Gifts: The interviews are presented to the Becker Library Archives, which will help ensure a permanent record of St. Stephen's chronicles. When the school celebrates its100-year anniversary, fifty years from now, these interviews will provide a rare opportunity for future generations to learn about the school's history.

Legacy: . The interviews will be collaborations between current students and older generations. As intergenerational creations, they truly will reflect a rich half-century for St. Stephen's Episcopal School.
