Classical Music Home Page

The All Classical Guide site allows users to access brief biographies of composers/performers with links to information on specific works. When browsing the AMG Classical database, users can also listen to MIDI files containing the theme to major compositions. The Classical MIDI File Project, which contains more than 20,000 musical themes, can be accessed by composer name and then choosing from the listed repertoire. Links are also provided to the All Music Guide Glossary, a detailed reference source for a wide variety of music-related terms.

Classical Net

This site contains information and links to basic repertoire lists, a classical CD buying guide, reccomendations for classical CDs, composers works and data, reviews and articles, books and scores, other classical music links, and a search engine. It is a good place to start looking for a classical CD or composer. Click on Composer's Works and Data. The quality of information varies depending on authorship.

DW3 Classical Music Resources

"DW3 (Duke World Wide Web) Classical Music Resources is a comprehensive collection of classical music resources on the Web with links to more than 1,600 non-commercial pages/sites in over a dozen languages. The site is comprised of 107 well organized, subject-specific pages and features a powerful, easy-to-use internal search engine; multiple access points for hundreds of entries, including "see" and "see also" references; and composer-specific pages and links organized by historical period for enhanced browsing."

MHN Instrument Encyclopedia

A Yahoo! Pick of the Week (10-26-98), the Instrument Encyclopedia "Begins with more than 140 artifacts from the Sterns Collection at the University of Michigan" and "features musical instruments from around the world." Searchable by name, geographic region, building materials used and the Sachs Hobostel classification scheme, the database provides users with instrument images, textual descriptions and an occasional sound file. Music Notes

Subtitled "An Interactive Online Musical Experience," this detailed and well-researched Web site covers many aspects of music, including music theory and history, musical styles, music professions, and musical instruments. There is also a glossary of musical terms and a list of the resources used to create the site. Interactive games allow you to test your knowledge. This site, which was created by high school students for ThinkQuest, provides good introduction for beginners, but is also helpful to those who are more knowledgeable about music.

The Saint-Petersburg Museum of Musical Instruments

"The Museum possesses one of the largest collections in the world...more than 3000 items, and the major part of them are rare or unique."
