The Tao te Ching and the Bible

Some people say that in some places the TTC resembles the New Testament. Possible examples:

Do good to those who hate you. (Luke 6:27)
Repay resentment with integrity. (TTC -- 26)

Do not resist one who is evil (Matt.5:39)
Now, simply because he does not compete, No one can compete with him. (67)

...all who take the sword will perish by the sword. (Matt. 26:52)
Therefore, "The tyrant does not die a natural death." (5)

...unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 18:3)
While you....focus your vital breath until it is supremely soft,
can you be like a baby? (54)

Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)
"He who bears the misfortunes of the state is called the 'king of all under
heaven.'" (43)

If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all. (Mark 9:35)
The Sage withdraws himself but comes to the fore... (51)

For whoever would save his life will lose it... (Matt.16:25)
A person comes forth to lie and enters into death.....and the people whose every movement leads them to the land of death because they cling to life.... (13)

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth...where thieves break in and steal..." (Matt.6:19)
When gold and jade fill your rooms, no one will be able to guard them for you. (53)

For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? (Matt.16:26)
Person or property, which is dearer? (7)

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Matt. 23:12)
When you wish to weaken something you must momentarily strengthen it. (80)

Parable of the lost sheep (Matt. 18:12)
What was the reason for the ancients to value this so highly?
Did they not say: "Seek and thou shalt receive, Sin and thou shalt be forgiven"? (25)

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell
you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (Matt. 7:28)
Tao clothes and feeds the myriad creatures. (78) [Lin Yutang translation]

And not one of them (sparrows) will fall to the ground
without your Father's will. (Matt. 10:29)
Heaven's net is vast; Though its meshes are wide, nothing escapes. (38)

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matt. 7:7)
Empty but never exhausted, The more it pumps, the more comes out. (49)
Gossamer it is, seemingly insubstantial yet never consumed through use. (50)

My yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matt. 11:30)
My words are very easy to understand very easy to practice. (70)

There are many other possible intersections deserving exploration. Keep an eye out for: light/darkness in the Gospels and yang/yin imagery in the TTC; anonymity & hiding; absolute good vs. absolute evil and the notion of complementary phases within the flow of the Tao; water; God and Tao; feeding the 5,000 and inexhaustability; the "will of my father," Spirit, and te/integrity; flesh and spirit; being born again; Pharisees, etiquette, & rules & te/integrity; Mary and the mother; washing feet; the way, the truth, the life; love and loving one another.
