Some people say that in some places the TTC resembles
the New Testament. Possible examples:
Do not resist one who is evil (Matt.5:39)
...all who take the sword will perish by the sword. (Matt.
26:52)
...unless you turn and become like children, you will never
enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 18:3)
Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the
world! (John 1:29)
If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant
of all. (Mark 9:35)
For whoever would save his life will lose it...
(Matt.16:25)
Do not lay
up for yourselves treasures on earth...where thieves break in and steal..." (Matt.6:19)
For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world
and forfeits his life? (Matt.16:26)
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles
himself will be exalted. (Matt. 23:12)
Parable of the lost sheep (Matt. 18:12)
Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither
toil nor spin; yet I tell
And not one of them (sparrows) will fall to
the ground
Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matt. 7:7)
My yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matt.
11:30) There are many other possible intersections deserving exploration. Keep an eye out for: light/darkness in the Gospels and yang/yin imagery in the TTC; anonymity & hiding; absolute good vs. absolute evil and the notion of complementary phases within the flow of the Tao; water; God and Tao; feeding the 5,000 and inexhaustability; the "will of my father," Spirit, and te/integrity; flesh and spirit; being born again; Pharisees, etiquette, & rules & te/integrity; Mary and the mother; washing feet; the way, the truth, the life; love and loving one another. |
